The Cave City Watermelon Festival is held in late July in Cave City, Arkansas, located in the Ozark Mountains. The city is known for the sweetest and juiciest watermelons in Arkansas. It starts on Thursday and goes through Saturday. Saturday is the biggest day with the most events. There is a car show, a play area for children, the exciting watermelon games, and music concerts each day. Free extremely cold Cave City watermelons are served up to everyone at 4 p.m.
The watermelon games are held at 3 p.m. Saturday. The teams are employees from the local watermelon farmers, who participate in three sets of games; watermelon toss and stack, the watermelon relay race and the watermelon toss. The watermelon toss requires all the teams to play. Team members from one side toss a large watermelon to a team member on the other side and take a step back. In all the games, a team or team member is disqualified if a watermelon is damaged or dropped.
